I don't know if I'm the first to come up with idea, but it goes like this.

As far as I can remember there are no doctors in the Pokemon world. There are only nurses. Only one nurse Joy is needed to fully run a Pokemon center. This seems very odd at first, but I think this may be the future of modern medical service in real life. Technology is taking the place of doctors these days. Robots can diagnose and perform surgeries now. In the future, all a hospital would need is a kind face to welcome patients and help them relax while getting healed. This has already happened in the Pokemon world. Technology has developed to the point that Pokemon can be healed just by putting their Pokeballs in a machine behind the front desk or keeping them in incubators for a few days. That's it. All doctors have lost their jobs roftl

Okay, we don't know what the case is for human hospitals in the Pokemon world, since we've never properly seen one. But I think it would most likely be the same.

What do you think? What is the reality behind medical service in the Pokemon world?

For sure in the games they only need a machine to heal all the Pokémon (or the PC asd) so Pokémon doctors don't have a job anymore XD

But if we talk about humans the story seems different XDD a doctor once appeared in the first season: in the episode "A Chansey Operation" where Pikachu gets an apple stuck in its throat, Ash and his friends rush it to a Pokémon Center but in the end ask for help from a normal doctor XD at first the doctor thinks that it's Misty that needs help since that is a hospital for humans but in the end he helps Pikachu.

Seems that he don't have anything advanced to heal his patients...

And from what we can see, in the anime the technology isn't that advanced since you still need time to fully recover your Pokémon :yeahyeah: (and not 30 second of speaking with the nurse of the Pokémon Center like in the games)

So I think that in the game the technology is really advanced but not that much in the anime. Maybe the game technology is that advanced because they have a lot of scientists that work in many fields?? (Since the first generation you battle against some of them...) while in the anime seems that scientist focus on different (maybe sometimes useless) things :yeahyeah:

Witchcraft! Witchcraft is behind the medical service in the Pokemon world. :yeahyeah:

Just kidding, anyway, as you said, Pokémon World has a machine that do all the work... So doctors lost their job. And for the nurses all the work that left for them was to be the receptionist. =/

But, as for the humans, we don't know. As May said, in the anime the things don't look that much technological, but in the game we haven't see an hospital for humans at all (or at least I can't remember), so the mystery keeps going.

It is my goal to explain the Pokemon universe as realistically as possible, so you can't stop me from thinking hard on it. Anyway, it's fun to think about roftl

That's a good question XDD

I take it for granted that animals also exist in the Pokemon world. The franchise doesn't show us, but they're always mentioned in the Pokedex. Raichu and gastly's FRLG dex entries involve an Indian elephant. Most Pokemon have categories in the dex, such as Pikachu, the "mouse" pokemon. :yeahyeah:

Yeahhh I know they used to show animals in the early episodes of Pokemon, but as time went by, it looks like the animators are trying their best not to show animals in the show if they can help it. Whether they decided to fix the canon is unclear, but I do believe there are animals in the Pokemon universe :coffee:

For sure that the animators try to don't add real animals but the game sometimes add them XD

But let's return to the animeverse, they fetured real animals a lot of times in the old generations:

And, the official guidebook confirmed years ago that real animals exists in the Pokémon world (even if now we don't see them that often...)
the guidebook Pocket Monsters: The Animation confirmed that there were indeed animals in the Pokémon world, and also revealed that Pokémon weren't related to animals at all.

Hmm...so basically, because of the reminder that there indeed were doctors in the Pokemon games since gen 5, we are getting close to the conclusion that the reason only Nurse Joy is working in Pokemon centers is because of game developers' and anime writers' convenience.

Well, I already had assumed this as a fact.

I didn't realize doctors were portrayed, so I thought there might be a chance of other possibilities
