Earlier this month at E3, Masuda revealed the decision to narrow the number of available Pokémon in Sword and Shield.
Masuda and Ohmori were interviewed a lot (you can find some interviews here) and today the official Pokémon website has published a letter by Junichi Masuda for fans who were disappointed with the decision to narrow down the available Pokémon.

Thank you to all of our fans for caring so deeply about Pokémon. Recently, I shared the news that some Pokémon cannot be transferred to Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. I've read all your comments and appreciate your love and passion for Pokémon.

Just like all of you, we are passionate about Pokémon and each and every one of them is very important to us. After so many years of developing the Pokémon video games, this was a very difficult decision for me. I'd like to make one thing clear: even if a specific Pokémon is not available in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, that does not mean it will not appear in future games.

The world of Pokémon continues to evolve. The Galar region offers new Pokémon to encounter, Trainers to battle, and adventures to embark on. We are pouring our hearts into these games, and we hope you will look forward to joining us on this new journey.

Before I begin a tirade I want to establish that I don't usually care about some things, but there are certain points that I would like to make. (And please excuse my language).
1. STOP FOCUSING ON GEN 1 POKEMON SO MUCH, THERE IS SO MUCH VARIETY THAT THEY HAVE CREATED, BUT THEY CHOOSE TO THINK THAT NOSTALGIA IS THE GREATEST THING EVER.
2. IF THEY WANTED TO FOCUS ON ONLY HAVING A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF POKEMON AVAILABLE, WHY DIDN'T THEY ALLOW FOR THE FANS TO HAVE AN INPUT, THAT WAY, WHATEVER HAPPENED, IF THE FANS COMPLAINED, THEY WOULD HAVE NOBODY TO BLAME BUT THEMSELVES.
3. ALSO IT'S NOT SOME POKEMON, BUT A LOT OF POKEMON, THEY HAVE CREATED A DIVERSE WORLD, BUT FOR SOME REASON, THEY SEEM TO THINK THAT PUTTING EVEN MORE FOCUS ON A SELECT FEW POKEMON (Given that they are quite popular ones) IS THE GREATEST THING EVER, HOW ABOUT FOCUSING ON ONE"S THAT ARE NEVER FOCUSED ON.
4. I MIGHT'VE STARTED IN GEN 4, BUT EVEN IF MOST POKEMON FROM THAT GENERATION HAVEN'T BEEN FOCUSED ON, JUST FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, FUCK, OFF, GEN 1.
5. WHY MAKE THE CHAMPIONS POKEMON ONE THAT WE"VE ALREADY SEEN, MAKE IT SOMETHING FRESH AND EXOTIC, IT'S NOT THAT FUCKING HARD.
6. AND THIS MIGHT BE MY EXTREME AUSTRALIAN MANNERISMS COMING OUT, BUT I SWEAR, IF EVEN MORE GODDAMN FOCUS IS PUT ON PIKACHU, MR MASUDA, YOU AND ME WILL BE DUKING IT OUT IN A MACCA'S CARPARK, IN THE DEAD OF THE NIGHT, AND YOU WILL SOON LEARN WHY I HATE THAT LITTLE YELLOW RAT.

Now that I have gotten my anger out, and realised that this probably isn't exactly the best place to post my opinion, I just wanted to state one thing.

NEVER RELEASE A STATEMENT IF YOU THINK HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG, IT WILL ONLY ADD FUEL TO THE FIRE, AND IT WILL PROBABLY LEAD TO EVEN MORE PROBLEMS.

(P.S. If you want me to take this down, I'll be more than happy to, I just wanted to see what I would write if I actually chose to care about a problem for once)

First of all, it's your opinion and we aren't here to delete someones opinon because we agree/don't agree with you. We are here to talk, there can be times when a discussion is really intense but it's a good thing when everyone says what he/she thinks if there's respect of others opinions :yesyes2: :sisi2:

I'm really sad with this new policy... like a lot of others fans that started the #BringBackNationalDex but sadly, seems that Game Freak don't listen to its fans... and Masuda seems to come from another world... in an old interview from Let's Go he said
"I know that a lot of people and fans have spent a lot of time hatching eggs, they've hatched... a lot of eggs, but we want them to kind of discover new ways to enjoy Pokémon games, you know I'd be really sad to think that for them, Pokémon is hatching eggs"
(here's the full interview Interview with Masuda and Kensaku Nabana about Let's Go games)
 he forgot that hatching eggs is for competitive purpose?? It's not that we have fun (yes, there's the training for the EVs and the bottle caps but you still need the right nature) but if we want a legit Pokémon to use in a competition we have to hatch them (remember the Porygon 2 in a Beast ball? They want us to hack that much??)

1. I agree for the Gen 1 focus... we got Let's Go and now seems that a lot of Pokémon in Galar will be Gen 1 since they have the 3d models ready and for the nostalgia thing (the Galar Champion has a Charizard....)
2. Seems that they don't care for fans input... you have to buy the game and "shut up". You have to be happy that you got your game....
(Nintendo a week ago send some mails with a survey asking about Sword/Shield (maybe later I'll add some screens about the survey) so I hope thet will be able to do something because for now the pre-orders on Amazon aren't that good)
3. why can't I have Shuckle in the game? I loved it in Silver... he was on my main team! :rage2:
And what about the legendary Pokémon?? Why I can't use Rayquaza?? He is my favorite but since he is a legendary Pokémon I don't think it will make the cut! :rage2::rage2::rage2::rage2::rage2::rage2:
(And what about my competitive team? Mega Metagross, Landorus, Tapu Lele (with a Z move) and Zapros??? What about Suicune? I love it in the competitive!!!)
6. sorry, Pikachu is one of my favorites :suspect: (but I know that since its in every single game there's people that hate it...)

I know everybody has their favourites, and I respect that, but I just have a personal hatred for Pikachu.
But it's just sad that I've literally bought every game when it came out because in it's base form it stayed the same, I'm not saying that change is bad, but it's like that hammer analogy (wherein if you change both the head and the handle, is it still the same hammer), and with all the changes and alterations done to the main formula (some good, some bad, some great, some horrible), does it even represent what the original idea was.

That's ok XD like I wrote before, I know that Pikachu is hated because he is everywhere :yesyes2: :sisi2: (and for that same reason I'm tired of Eevee)

For those interested, here's the survey Nintendo of Europe has emailed

Here they ask you to watch this video:

From here the survey split in two

- if you say that you will buy Sword or Shield they will ask you which version (or both) will you buy and when

- if you say that you won't buy the game they ask you why and end the survey

I just found an interview to Masuda and Ohmori made by GameInformer from August 2017
Masuda: After Gold and Silver came out, it was a huge hit around the world, but shortly after everyone was saying, 'That’s it. The Pokémon fad is over! It’s dead! It was a very stressful project, for sure,"
"When we were first developing it, I had the idea in mind that it would be Ruby and Sapphire, and then the next games, including the titles, would be Diamond and Pearl, and in between we would do the remakes, FireRed and LeafGreen, so we could create this structure where you could take the Pokémon from the Kanto region to the Diamond and Pearl games
I got really stressed out and had to go to the hospital and had some stomach issues and had to get a camera inserted and they didn’t know what it was – very stressful. The night before release I had a dream that it was a complete failure, a total nightmare.
We at Game Freak took that as a challenge and said, 'It’s not dead. We’re going to show you guys you’re wrong!'.
The morning after, the day of release, I went into the local shop and saw people lining up to buy it and was extremely relieved. It was close. Super scary at the time.

Ohmori: It was actually a lot of fun to work on it and I was able to think, 'I’m making this'
I kept hearing from Masuda about how hard the original Ruby and Sapphire games were and I kind of had that pressure in mind while creating Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby. But from my perspective, it was a lot of fun to work on them, so I was super motivated to work as the director on the remakes.

If Masuda is that stressed why he don't go get a vacation? Ohmori is the director of SwSh and seems to have a lot of fun/passion for what he do so why he can't decide more? Seems that Masuda is the real director for SwSh and not Ohmori... :uhmm::uhmm::uhmm:

This statement of theirs is crap! I would understand if they had a time crunch and they had to remake EVERYTHING from scratch. But THEY ARE USING:
  • Pokemon Models
  • Pokemon Animations
  • Attack Animations
They are re-using everything from Pokemon XY & SM! I'd be able to forgive if they were on a crunch and needed to delay the addition of some Pokemon ok fine... But there is no excuse for not adding and honestly someone pointed this out and I'm almost afraid this is their goal at the moment.
  1. New Gens almost always have either a 3rd game or sequels. Those games always sell less than the main two it combines, so what if to fix that they restrict Pokemons in SWSH and for the next Gen 8 games that are not remakes the selling point is the National Dex.
  2. They've been advertising the upcoming Pokemon Home which will be a paid service, a paid service to go on top of the Switch's online service. Not only that but Pokemon Home is a one way transfer from everything BUT SWSH. So Pokemon who are not in SWSH will remain imprison in Home, where you will most likely have to continue paying to keep your Pokemon. To put it blunt GameFreak would be holding our Pokemon Hostage, where we would need to constantly pay to keep them alive, until they decide to release a game where we'd be able to transfer them to.
So I'm afraid their goals could be to get us to pay for all of the Pokemon we worked hard on capturing, raising, breeding, and shiny hunting by having them trapped in Home until a game is released where we can use them in.

Well... in this interview Masusa said:
even if a specific Pokémon is not available in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, that does not mean it will not appear in future games.
but at the same time the new policy says that from this game forward we will see only a few selected Pokémon in every game
one anonymous user more directly translated Masuda's words from the Nintendo Treehouse stream: "Because of this, from this game forward, our policy will change. The Pokemon that will appear will be specially selected to fit the stage of adventure."

I don't remember they confirming that HOME will be a paid service (for now because they have a lot of time to tell us that we will have to pay 5 euro a year) but since Bank is a paid service, for sure this one will be too.
Like you wrote, many Pokémon will remain in Home and we won't be able to use them for who knows how many years... I have a LivingDex (with all different forms and male/female forms) plus some old friends of old journeys, event 'mons, shiny, competitive 'mons.... knowing that many of them won't be useful in the game is sad so I think they will stay in Bank where I can use them and transfer only the competitive ones that will be in Galar.

You're right they haven't confirmed but considering Bank was and Home can supposedly do more I'm almost 100% certain it will be a paid service. Actually I'm going to start working on clearing out my Pokemon Bank, I wouldn't be surprised if we only had a couple of months after Home's release to transfer in Pokemon before they discontinue Bank.

Also if this IS Gamefreaks new Policy well they've lost a customer.

(I think they lost a lot of customers since many fans aren't happy with this new policy)

About Bank... I don't think they will discontinue Bank that soon... they don't lose anything since many people won't transfer Pokémon to HOME and they can still get 5 euro/dollars a year from Bank. So they keep Bank and HOME to get more money :yesyes2: :sisi2:
maybe in the future they will close Bank but I think we have a lot of time before that :yesyes: (and, it's stupid to close it because we will lose the only way to transfer our Pokémon to HOME :yeahyeah:)
