Masuda talked to the website Game Informer about the decision to narrow the number of available Pokémon and that the Pokémon cut from SwSw will return in the future.
"Up until now, we’ve been proud we’ve been able to include so many Pokémon in the games, but as a result of that, there’s actually been quite a few features or gameplay ideas that we’ve had to abandon in the past,"
"Going forward, thinking about the future of Pokémon, we want to prioritize all those new gameplay ideas, new ways to enjoy the game, and want to challenge ourselves at Game Freak to create new ways to enjoy the game. That’s really what drove the decision for this new direction."
"We have a lot of awesome new challenges that we haven’t even revealed in Sword and Shield," "We want to continue to come up with these new features, so we figured this was the best path forward for the franchise"
"A wide variety of discussions happened; it’s not just one kind of criteria for deciding which Pokémon are going to appear in the games, but a lot of different reasons, a lot of different directions, a lot of debate over which ones would be the best in the game,"
"I think one example of that is figuring out the Pokémon that would make sense for the setting of the game the most; these Pokémon look like they could live in the Galar region. We really spent a lot of effort deciding which would best fit the setting of the adventure and the features that we wanted to implement. I think players will be satisfied. There’s quite a few Pokémon that you’ll encounter in the Galar region Pokédex, so I think players will have fun seeing all the Pokémon."
When asked if if cut Pokémon will return in future games:
"Definitely,"
"You can look forward to seeing Pokémon that don’t appear in these games appearing in different regions in future games. I think Pokémon Home, for a lot of players, will serve as a launching pad to gather them all there and then embark on future adventures."
"We’re really designing it as the place for all of your Pokémon together, so it’s really important for the future of the franchise, and it’ll be more than even Pokémon Bank as a place to gather all your Pokémon together in one spot."

Just thought... Let's say all of the cut Pokemon appear in the next game being Diamond & Pearl Remake (DPR). If that is the game, doesn't that mean that Pokemon SWSH won't be able to battle against Pokemon DPR?

There will probably be some overlapping Pokemon between the two, so does that mean that only those Pokemon shared between SWSH & DPR will be usable if we can battle between the games?

I think, yes.
We already have something like this in XY and ORAS. ORAS introduced some new Mega and the Primals so if you wanted to battle you must first deposit in the pc all the Pokémon that aren't in XY and the game will use "special rules"
The real question is: how many Pokémon from SwSh will be in the DP remake?

Yea, Gen 6 & 7 had that but to a much lesser degree and one that wasn't as big of a deal. Yea there were some restrictions between Primals, Megas, & Cosplay Pikachu but overall a good I'd say... 97% is a good estimate? Was compatible between the two. But SWSH & DPR (which will certainly be a Gen 8 games also) will be much more restrictive, forcing players IF they want to battle between the games to have a highly restrictive team. Heh... So much for "expanding" the variety in competitive play...

You can't battle between Gen 6 (XY, ORAS) and Gen 7 (SM, USUM)

That was really good but like you wrote, I think we won't have a lot of variety in competitive... (or in random battles) and maybe the two games won't let you battle against other players... :suspect:

I didn't mean battling between Gen 6 & 7, I meant between the games of they're own Generation. Because SM & USUM had restrictions also between Poipole, Necrozma forms, & the other 2 new UBs.

I mean something as big as this, if people don't get pissed then there's no hope for Pokemon...

Edit:
I'm fine if the Exp Sharing is a regular mechanic but they better let us turn it off! Cause all of the previous games were rediculously easy doing a run with the Share on!

"I think players can choose the right playstyle in terms of difficulty for themselves."
PFFFTTTTT HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA LMFAOROFL!!!! And how exactly are supposed to do that with more and more limitations being added?

"Who do we have to beg for Pokemon Snap 2?"
ASKING THE REAL QUESTIONS HERE!!!

Let's not forget Lycanroc Dusk Form :suspect:

On Twitter it's a war... but sadly after the nintendo Direct the pre-orders are doing good (and maybe in this last month they will become great...)

I'm fine with the exp share but, I prefer to be able to choose :yeahyeah:

Everyone was really happy with the hard difficulty in B2W2 (ok, it's stupid to complete the game to unlock it but it's better than nothing :yeahyeah:)

New interview:
Dutch interview that talks about the EXP share. There's more: https://www.insidegamer.nl/artikel/in-gesprek-met-ohmori-en-masuda-over-pokemon-sword-en-shield/
The missing National Dex is of course also discussed, of which we mainly want to know whether it will return in the future. Will there be an update or a third game? According to Masuda, Game Freak wants to continue the approach for Sword and Shield:

“We now have no plans to make the pokémon that are missing in the Galar pokédex in-game available. That is an approach that we want to continue with Pokémon games in the future. Of course, up to now it has not been possible to encounter every pokémon in every game, so people had to transfer it from old games via Pokémon Bank to the new game, for example. ”

On the one hand, that is understandable, because Masuda previously indicated that Game Freak does not have the manpower to animate all pokémon if it also wants to introduce new game play features. On the other hand, Pokémon is pretty much the largest franchise in the world and it is not unreasonable to expect a complete Pokédex from the new parts. As a compromise, however, Junichi Masuda claims that the Pokémon Home app, which will be released in 2020, will be the place to collect pokémon from all games.

"Currently, the Pokémon Home app is under development, where players can collect their different pokémon, and only pokémon in the Galar-Pokédex can be transferred from there to Sword and Shield," he says. "But the way of playing is actually not very different from before with Pokémon Bank: until now you have always been able to meet only the pokémon of a certain region."

He continues: “We encourage people to use Pokémon Home to collect their pokémon from old games there. From there, they might be able to take it to other games in the future. So take good care of your old pokémon, because you might be able to go out with them again in the future. ”

They realize doubling down is not going to help them in any way right?

They want to complain about "moral" being down, most likely because of the backlash since it has intensify due to the leak, and releasing something like this will do nothing but make it worse.

They continue to say that they won't add all Pokémon in future games... and that they don't regret anything so I think they were ready for a backlash
(but at the same time, the thing about the "moral" being down maybe isn't true since there isn't any interview about it, only a guy wrote that)

Pokémon Sword & Shield interview: “we have no regrets” around the Nationaldex
VG247: So, we have to talk about the elephant in the room. At E3 you guys announced what you were doing with the Pokedex in this game, not having a complete national dex in the game. There was quite a response. Obviously you’re doing what you’re doing with this game, but has the response given you any pause for thought? Do you still think this is absolutely the only way to go in the future?

Junichi Masuda: It’s not necessarily that it’s made us rethink things per se, but what we are always looking at for the future is what we can do to make the most interesting game possible and make a more enjoyable, richer experience for the fans.

For example, when we add new moves and abilities we create a deeper experience for everyone to enjoy. This time around we can also give people a greater attachment to the Pokemon that are in the game, which is something we think is very important. So we definitely – we don’t have regrets about what we’ve done.

In terms of having Pokemon that you had in previous games, we do have Pokemon Home that’s coming out – and that’s another place where everyone can gather all their Pokemon from previous games and enjoy a different way of playing with them there.
Full interview: https://www.vg247.com/2019/10/24/pokemon-sword-shield-interview-no-regrets-national-dex/

"we can also give people a greater attachment to the Pokemon that are in the game"... yeah, we will get attached to see that Pokémon won't be in the next game
at least tell us how Home will work! :rage2: Because for now I think it's a prison not a home sweet home! roftl

Well Masuda is one big ol liar! Last couple of days a few screenshots of interviews with him where he says he never wants to cut Pokemon, this was as recent between Let's Go release and before SWSH announcement. They had specifically asked if they could transfer Pokemon from Let's Go to the 2019 Main Game, Masuda said "We made a bad memory back when you couldn't transfer your Pokemon into the newest game (gen 2->3), we want to work to prevent that from happening again."

With their actions they have made the worse memory that Pokemon will possibly ever have.

Ah that interview... (https://pokemon-trainer.com/threads...ir-old-pokemon-to-the-2019-switch-games.2649/ ) and I was so happy when they announced Home (June 5)... only to be sad a few days later (June 11)
I still remember when I wasn't able to transfer my Pokémon from Silver to Sapphire... but I was really happy that something like that didn't happen again... well, until now. A lot of my favorite aren't in the game :cry5::cry5:

This is an interview made by Nintendo Power magazine from 2011
(Note: BW were released in 2011 and a year later the sequel, B2W2)

I saw that interview also. I didn't start playing Pokemon until Gen 3, so the Gen 2 to 3 issue didn't affect me and FRLG were released not long after I started playing.
Darn... Sorry to hear... Gardevoir, Golurk, and Tsareena at least made it in for me.

I made the decision that I'm not buying Shield yet. I'm going to wait for GameStop to have Pre-owned copies instead to then buy it, I'll gladly give them my money over GameFreak, that is unless I win one from the various contests people are holding. I figured they already payed for the game and I'm personally still not giving my money to GF.

Well... I think that buying a copy from Game Stop/Amazon isn't giving money to Game Freak (but I can be mistake) because it's Game Stop/Amazon that buy the game from Nintendo or other sources (that's why on Amazon you find wrote "Sold by Amazon/Shipped by Amazon" and not "Sold by Nintendo/Shipped by Amazon") but I can be wrong...
while if you buy the game from the official store (nintendo) or on eshop the money go directly to Game Freak
example: Nintendo sell the copy to Game Stop/Amazon, they take the money from them. you pre-order the copy from GS/Amazon and you pay GS/Amazon for the game
but I'm not sure if it's like this or not

From what I've been told when it comes to new Games, a portion of the money goes back to the original company. But when it's Used/Pre-owned all the money goes to the seller in this case Game Stop.

They are lying (in the corporate PR management sense). Real answer from their meeting minutes per a friend of mine who saw them, and has been accurate about every Nintendo related thing for years now (I was saying the next games would be named Sword and Shield long before that name was publicly known, if you want that as proof I even have time stamped messages to games media people of it) is they just fucked up the model and animation importer, and didn't have the manpower with the right knowledge to fix it in time to meet the set release date. So instead they had to put tons of people, including outside help (this is where the ~300 people worked on Sw&Sh number comes from) on recreating art assets and getting their busted ass engine to work, since Gamefreak fucking up the importer is actually indicative of their overall software engineering competency right now.

Edit: Their current plan months ago was to try to salvage the Sword and Shield launch by not admitting this, as it would be an admission that this was a failed gen, and then having a big surprise announcement of the full dex in the following game/gen with the fixed importer on hand. Their story will be that they listened to feedback and now realize how important the full dex is, while not admitting how incompetent the actual in house Gamefreak devs are to save face; of which less than ~80 of them actually worked on Sword and Shield until recently, many of them off working on Town (btw Town development wasn't going well either, there's just large gaps of software engineering knowledge there) until they realized the importer was totally busted and un-salvageable in time.

Before anyone tells me Masuda said future gens won't have the full dex, he was in those meeting minutes too, right down to that statement being planned as part of how they're going to handle this PR shitstorm.

Edit: before anyone takes this as gospel, it's possible for the suits to change their mind about reversing dexit after the meetings I'm referencing occured, or at some point in the future.

Edit: the aforementioned timestamped messages.

edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/cgh8fy/long_post_warning_an_actual_technical_analysis_of/ context here of what I mean by recreated and the animation problems.
A screencap like that isn't much proof but... I'll be honest I would've been happier if they admitted the truth (the broke importer is a better excuse than the better models and everything else we got)
I know that this can cause a loss of investors but they would seem more honest and avoid all the hate from the fans.
I hope that for the next game they will fix everything because if they really won't bring back all of them that would really be sad.
