Sailor Moon is back and ready to go in on a new intergalactic adventure. With Luna by her side, Serena is preparing to hit up theaters again for a new film, and this magical announcement has got fans feeling empowered in a big way.

Over in Japan, a rather big announcement about Sailor Moon was just made. It turns out the franchise will be getting a brand-new film in 2020 featuring all your favorite Sailor Scouts.

The film, which is titled Sailor Moon Eternal, is set to debut in 2020. No firm release date has been set for the project, but fans do know a bit about its release. The movie will come in two parts, so fans can expect not one but two movies to likely join the franchise next year

As for what the film is about, well — that kind of information is still classified. Sailor Moon Eternals did put out a teaser trailer and poster to hype fans about the release. The latter stars both Sailor Moon and Chibi Moon in all their costumed glory. As for the promo video, it shows all of the Sailor Scouts including Chibi Moon in their newly redesigned uniforms. In fact, it looks like these designs are even more in line with creator Naoko Takeuchi’s original artwork, so fans are eager to see what this shojo comeback will have in store for them.

Sailor Moon was originally created by Naoko Takeuchi for Nakayoshi magazine in 1991. More than 20 years later, Sailor Moon stands as one of the most influential shojo series ever created; popularizing the magical girl sub-genre with fans all over the world. It would be the perfect series from which to pull possible Jeopardy questions from. Surely Borer would have the edge in such a case if she continues on her winning streak on the show

Over 100 episodes from the best part of the Sailor Moon anime will be free to watch online

sm-1-2.png

Sailor Senshi spending summer with fans as part of run-up to the newest installments in the Sailor Moon anime franchise.

There’s a whole bunch of Sailor Moon anime out there, but when a lot of people think of the series, they’re primarily thinking of its first three segments. 1992’s anime starting point Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon introduces “ordinary junior high school girl” Usagi Tsukino as she awakens to her powers and builds a team of Sailor Senshi, 1993’s Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon R brought the youngest and oldest Sailors into the mix with Chibiusa and Pluto, and 1994’s Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon S completed the collection of heroines by adding Neptune, Uranus, and Saturn.

While they’re not without their supporters, in the later SuperS and Sailor Stars arcs of the anime arguably feel like the franchise is losing steam, so it’s the run from plain Sailor Moon to S for which the fandom flame burns brightest, and as luck would have it those are also the same arcs which are going to be absolutely free to watch online over the next several months!

The reason for the burst of lunar generosity is the upcoming release of the paired Sailor Moon Eternal theatrical features. Part of the continuing Sailor Moon Crystal anime reboot, Eternal will cover the franchise’s Dead Moon arc, which was originally adapted into 1995’s Sailor Moon SuperS, and so in order to get new viewers up to speed, and jog the memory of pre-existing fans, all 127 episodes that comprise Sailor Moon, R, and S will be free to watch on the sailormoon-official YouTube channel

Teaser for Sailor Moon Eternal:-

This does raise a question though: If Eternal is part of the Crystal continuity, why is it the classic ‘90s anime episodes that are going to be free to watch online? The answer might have something to do with Eternal bringing back character designer Kazuko Tadano, who designed the characters for the first Sailor Moon and R arcs. Given the lukewarm reception Crystal has received from viewers, plus the four-year gap since the last Sailor Moon Crystal TV episode aired, it’s looks like the producers are hoping to position Eternal as a new start with a nostalgic touch for the franchise, and under that logic a look back at the anime episodes that made the series such a hit in the first place seems appropriate

The first episodes will become available on the sailormoon-official YouTube channel (found here) on April 24, with more being added in a staggered schedule for viewing through July 23. The first Sailor Moon Eternal is currently scheduled to debut in Japan on September 11, and while just about any movie release dates these days seem like they should be taken with a grain of salt (look at what just happened with Evangelion), at lest we can be sure of spending most of the summer with the Sailor Senshi.

Brand-new Sailor Moon anime movies bring back original ‘90s anime character designer【
Video】

sm-1.png

Sailor Moon is taking two steps into the future, but it’s bringing an important part of its past along for the ride.

For all the hype that accompanied Sailor Moon’s return to the anime world with Sailor Moon Crystal, the magical girl reboot faded away without much fanfare. Crystal has been on hiatus since its last episode aired three years ago, despite still having plenty of creator franchise creator Naoko Takeuchi’s original manga left to adapt.

But just like its titular heroine shaking off a bout of laziness or cowardice, Sailor Moon is ready to return to fighting evil, and this time anime’s most famous magical girls are headed back not just into action, but to the big screen as well, as producers have released the first teaser trailer for not one, but two upcoming Sailor Moon theatrical anime!

sm-2.png

Collectively billed as Sailor Moon Eternal, the two-part film will cover the Dead Moon Arc, which was first seen in anime form in the Sailor Moon SuperS portion of the original 1990s anime. Sailor Moon Eternal will also be the first theatrical Sailor Moon anime since 1995.

Takeuchi is serving as supervisor on the films, while Chiaki Kon continues on from Sailor Moon Crystal Season 3 as director. The biggest news, though, is that the anime is once again changing character designers, and the new designer is also an old one, as industry veteran Kazuko Tadano, who handled character designs for the very first season of the ‘90s Sailor Moon anime and its immediate follow-up, Sailor Moon R, is coming back for the two Eternal movies.

sm-3.png

Eternal’s change of format and character designer are likely good news for long-time Sailor Moon fans. Though Crystal has been billed as a more faithful adaptation of Sailor Moon’s manga source material, many viewers were less than impressed by Crystal’s pacing and animation quality, and also felt that the reboot’s character designs, which stick closer to the manga’s artwork, aren’t the best fit for animated storytelling. Eternal being a pair of movies should force the filmmakers to keep the story moving at a brisk pace, and Tadano providing the character designs, as well as serving as animation director, should make for more crowd-pleasing visuals, especially with theatrical feature-level budgets backing them.

Sailor Moon Will be Free to Watch On YouTube Starting April 24th:-

sailor-moon-204.jpg

you wanted to watch Sailor Moon classic but you don’t own the DVD’s Blu-rays or subscribe to Hulu then I have some very good news for you. According to Soranews we will be able to watch Sailor Moon on their official Youtube channel starting April 24th. They will be adding about a hundred episodes through July 23rd this year and leaving them up for an undetermined amount of time.

So far they have only announced that 127 episodes will be put up taking us through season one all the way to Sailor Moon S. With Soranews saying that the best part of the show will be included because Super S and Stars lose steam in the series. I beg to differ. Super S and Stars are wonderful series where we get to see Chibi Usa grow as well as Usagi struggle with her separation from Mamoru. Throw in the Starlights and a great story about a Sailor Senshi who was lost, abandoned and out for revenge and you have an amazing story of redemption and growth. But hey, I guess those seasons aren’t for everyone.

So if you want to know which arcs specifically they will take you through finding the Rainbow Crystals; Sailor Moon’s past and the fight with Queen Beryl; The Doom Tree saga; Sailor Moon R where Chibi Usa falls into the picture; Saving Crystal Tokyo; and the story with Professor Tomoe and Hotaru and the inner workings of the Outer Senshi. That should be about at the 127 episode mark.

ANYWAY… like I was saying they will be releasing the original anime on their YouTube which you can follow by clicking here.

This is suspected to be a lead up to gain interest in the upcoming film Sailor Moon Eternal which is set to debut the first part in Japan on September 11th. What is interesting is that they are releasing the original anime and not the current reboot Sailor Moon Crystal which is what the movie is directly a part of. But that’s ok because if you really want to watch it they have it all on Crunchyroll and Hulu as well. Crunchyroll you can watch it with commercials if you don’t have an account with them and Hulu, well you know the deal.

Now it’s been a long time coming for the Sailor Moon Eternal movie as the last time they put out an episode of Sailor Moon Crystal was in 2016. So fans have been effectively waiting about four years for the first part of what they deem to be season 4. And the kicker is that we probably have to wait years more for Sailor Stars to be adapted if they ever get to it.

TLDR: Sailor Moon is going to be available to watch for free here and I’m bitter that I’m still waiting for more Sailor Stars content and merch.

***Viz.com is also offering the entire series to watch for free right now on their website. Including the Dub for most of the fifth season
