Artists out there!
Some of you may already have a well developed style of your own, while others may still be trying out different things and experimenting with their art.
Regardless, based on how you draw right now, what do you think influenced your current art style the most?
Is it a particular piece of art you've seen? Is it a certain artist? Is it a mixture of things?

For me, it's probably Satoshi Yamamoto, the artist who illustrated Pokemon Special from the Crystal chapter and onward.
I had a phase in middle school where I was obsessed with Pokespe, so I spent a lot of time drawing and copying scenes in the manga. Because of that, when I draw humans, the way I draw the eyes and body proportions are still very similar to the Pokemon Special art style.

Other than that, I guess Ken Sugimori influenced me a lot, simply because I drew Pokemon a lot based on the official art.

Now, I'm trying to change my style a bit, to move a little away from the Japanese Manga/anime style drawing.
I'd like to share what kind of art style I want to have but I guess that's a topic for another day.

Good question XDDD
Years ago I used to draw the eyes of human characters with the Sugimori old style but I got tired of it after some time because it was a little boring drawing like that. After that I started to draw the eyes with an anime style and in the end I ended with a personal style inspired of the CLAMP one for some lights effects.
So my actual style is a fusion of anime/manga :yesyes: but trying to add something mine in it :yesyes:

Anime style, as in the pokémon anime? Also, what is CLAMP?

I watched a lot of anime so I think I took a little from every anime/manga I watched/read
CLAMP is a group of mangaka but I really liked how their characters (the eyes) in some anime look so I tryed to do something that resemble that style :yesyes:
Here's an example (I really love that effect in the eyes for female characters XD)

Ohhhh I see.
I think it's a good thing to be able to use references from a lot of different sources. If you're influenced by only a few, like me, it's hard to be flexible.

Hmm this might sound strange but I still don't actually have 'a style' yet >-< Though I do get closer and closer to the style I wish to have which is a mix inspired by the works of Rumiko Takahashi my favourite mangaka and the Yu-Gi-Oh manga style.
The way Rumiko draws her character proportions and mostly hair styles for me is my goal to draw and the eyes and monsters in the Yu-Gi-Oh manga is how I wish to draw dragons and all sorts of monsters and the eyes are just so amazingly well executed >-<

The Yu-Gi-Oh monsters style is really awesome! I love the dragons there are (and the other monsters!)
Years ago I drawed some of them (I drawed Blue Eyes White Dragon and another dragon but I don't remember its name...)

Yeah!! Same I love the dragons style and also many of the machine monsters look epic xD
Honestly I have only drawn Cyber Twin Dragon from Yu-Gi-Oh... but that was for the manga xD

For the manga... you mean the one you are drawing?

reviving this thread a little after so long xD
Since the question was about drawing style and since it's been a couple of years that people had time to adjust and maybe reach their art wishes.

Let's start with me then xD (srry @unownzone)

Last time I mentioned my inspiration was Rumiko Takahashi, she's a mangaka that drew some of the more oldschool manga's, like Urusai Yatsura, Inuyasha (my fav) and Ranma 1/2 (my other fav) with some others that I can't remember xD
My traditional artstyle is still inspired by Rumiko, though I also have another person that is my inspiration, which is Karuho Shiina, she's drawn a few manga's (I've read a couple but forgot most of em) including my favourite manga of all time Kimi Ni Todoke, those 2 styles is what I try to inspire and eventually create my own style around that. I still wish to draw creatures and monsters but it'll have to wait until I have figured what I want eventually.

For my PixelArt I have adapted the Pokémon sprite style, I can do basically all the art styles when it comes to trainers, though the Pokémon itself I can't do yet, except for fusions xDxD So keeping on the trainer side, I can do from all gens up to gen 5 pretty much custom, I prefer the gen 5 sprites so I do that most of the time.
My goal is that I eventually can sprite my own Pokémon, can be either resprites of originals or fakemon ^-^

Well that's what I can say about this... how has your journey been the past years when it comes to drawing or other arts you've picked up ^-^
